Contact Lens Center now open

Published on January 13, 2016

UofL Physicians – Eye Specialists has established a Contact Lens Center. While regular contact lens fittings typically occur during a patient’s annual eye exam, this center offers patients a broader assortment of lenses to meet their specific needs.

Dr. Patrick Scott oversees the Contact Lens Center, and helps patients improve their vision with various, unique lenses.

“I fit specialty contact lenses such as scleral lenses, which is a rigid gas permeable lens that is larger than a corneal hard lens,” Dr. Scott explained. “Scleral contact lenses provide the comfort of a soft contact lens with the superior optics of a rigid corneal contact lens.”

According to Dr. Scott, scleral lenses can be fit for nearsighted or far sighted patients, as well as patients with dry eye syndrome, corneal transplants, keratoconus, and for those who cannot tolerate traditional hard lenses. He said these lenses can be a little more expensive than soft lenses, but may last for many years.

Dr. Scott also provides regular contact lens fittings for patients at their annual eye exam so that they can renew/update their contact lens prescription. Patients can also be fitted for all other lenses, including soft lenses, hard lenses and multifocal lenses at the Contact Lens Center. Also, patients with an unexpired contact lens prescription can now order contact lenses and solutions at the center.
