Our UofL Health Restorative Neuroscience – Neuro-oncology Program has a wealth of experience evaluating and treating patients with primary and secondary tumors of the brain and spinal cord, and we use the latest techniques and modalities to provide the best care for our patients. Our team is dedicated to the delivery of excellent patient care through an integrated multidisciplinary approach. This philosophy is manifested in our patient-centered, collaborative approach to clinical care and our desire to develop novel treatments to improve patient survival and enhance the quality of life. Our Neuro-oncology team works closely with UofL Health’s Brown Cancer Center to provide each patient access to multidisciplinary care provided by neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, neuro-radiologists and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists. This approach ensures each neuro-oncology patient will be able to follow their care journey at UofL Health from diagnosis to rehabilitation. Our patients have access to a highly trained physiatrist, Dr. Megan Nelson, who is specialized in cancer rehabilitation and can uniquely address the needs of our patients throughout their care journey.

UofL Health – Restorative Neuroscience, with the Brown Cancer Center, treats a wide variety of cancers. We see to improve our understanding of the biological basis of the diseases we treat through cutting-edge research and train future leaders in neuro-oncology. In addition to having investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical research trials for primary and metastatic brain cancer, the UofL Health Restorative Neuroscience Neuro-oncology Program is actively involved in clinical research as a member of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. As teachers and researchers at the UofL School of Medicine, our physicians are committed to clinical research and applying that in practice for patients to obtain their best chance of quality survival. Our physicians specialize in laser ablation, Cyberknife focused radiosurgery and Optune, a more advanced, non-invasive treatment method used for some newly diagnosed and recurrent gliomas.

Brain Tumor Support Group

Our team works to facilitate each patient’s care journey both in and out of the hospital, that’s why our nurse practitioner, Allie Schaber, created a Brain Tumor Support Group that meets every second Tuesday of each month and is open to anyone who has a loved one or a diagnosis with a brain tumor, regardless of where they are being provided care. Contact Alexandra.Schaber@UofLHealth.org for more information.
