Intrauterine insemination (IUI): Placing washed sperm into a woman's uterus around the time of ovulation.

This procedure bypasses the cervix and places washed sperm into a woman’s uterus around the time of ovulation. Placing the sperm directly into the uterus allows a better chance that more sperm will make their way closer to the egg.

This procedure is performed to improve a couple’s chance of getting pregnant with unexplained infertility or in the presence of mild male factor infertility. It is also the procedure of choice for women and couples using frozen donor sperm.
