Ajmal Zemmar, M.D., Ph.D., F.M.H.

Ajmal Zemmar, M.D., Ph.D., F.M.H., obtained a medical degree at the Goethe University-Frankfurt am Main in Germany. Dr. Zemmar also has a doctorate in neuroscience at the Brain Research Institute Zurich, jointly from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and the University of Zurich (Switzerland). Dr. Zemmar is a physician-scientist specializing in epilepsy and functional neurosurgery. His research interests are the scientific basis of death, near-death experiences and neuro-robotics. When he was a young child, Dr. Zemmar and his family fled the war during the Russian invasion in Afghanistan and immigrated to Germany. His medical training has taken him around the globe from Germany to Switzerland, the U.S., England, Canada, China and South Africa.

He was trained at prestigious institutions including Oxford University, New York University, the Max-Planck Institute for Brain Research and Toronto University, learning from and working alongside some of the most acknowledged neurosurgeons and neuroscientists in the world. Dr. Zemmar speaks Farsi, German, and English fluently in addition to knowing Spanish and Latin. Dr. Zemmar holds membership in multiple international neurosurgical and medical societies, has been the recipient of numerous awards and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for many internationally-recognized medical journals. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his daughter. Dr. Zemmar’s unique study “Enhanced Interplay of Neuronal Coherence and Coupling in the Dying Human Brain” published with Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience documented the first EEG recording of a dying human brain. Dr. Zemmar found the brain waves around the time of death were similar to those occurring during dreaming, memory recall and meditation, suggesting an explanation for life recall during near-death experiences. This one-of-a-kind study was covered by news outlets around the world including CBS, USA Today, Insider, BBC, The Sun, Daily Mail, Spiegel and more.

I think my dr was one of the best I've had the experience dealing with. He showed a general concern for my health and injuries. I have had one neck surgery and 3 back surgeries and he has by far been the best.
