Pediatric Emergency Medicine

UofL Physicians – Pediatric Emergency Medicine is responsible for the evaluation and management of over 80,000 patients per year seen in the Emergency Departments at Norton Children’s Hospital and Norton Children’s Medical Center - Brownsboro.  

The Norton Children’s Hospital Emergency Department is a large referral center for pediatric patients extending into southern Indiana and the western half of Kentucky and acts as medical control for pediatric patients transported by the Metro Louisville Emergency Medical Services personnel. The Emergency Department consists of 33 examination rooms and 12 non-urgent/fast-track rooms. The Norton Children’s Medical Center Emergency Department consists of 17 examination rooms.

 

From broken bones and illnesses to other emergencies that may occur, our pediatricians, emergency specialists, nurses and staff at Norton Children's Hospital and Norton Children’s Medical Center - Brownsboro have the expertise and tools to offer care specifically designed for your child.

Conditions treated include:

  • Febrile (fever) illnesses
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Dehydration
  • Minor injuries including lacerations, and arm and leg injuries
  • Major trauma including car accidents, bike accidents and falls

24-Hour Emergency Department

Staffed by caring specialists, the emergency department at Kosair Children’s Hospital and Norton Children’s Medical Center – Brownsboro offers equipment and facilities geared to young patients.

Kid's Express

In this special area within the Norton Children’s Hospital Emergency Department we are able to treat non-critical illnesses or injuries with less delay.

Kid's Express is open from 5:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays

Just for Kids Transport Team

A fleet of vehicles and aircraft are maintained and used to safely transport children to Norton Children's Hospital for specialized medical care.
