For professional vocal performers, losing your voice means losing your line of work. But for anyone, losing your voice or becoming hoarse can be uncomfortable. Dr. Swapna Chandran, a voice specialist with the UofL Physicians Center for Voice Care, is one of only a few voice specialists in the country who treats this problem.

Dr. Chandran appeared on WHAS Great Day Live! on April 14 to talk about World Voice Day, which was April 16. World Voice Day focuses on the importance of your voice in every day life. Dr. Chandran, who is an ear, nose and throat doctor, is the voice expert in Louisville.

Dr. Chandran sees patients who are singers, but also people who use their voice every day to communicate at work or with their family. Vocal problems can include experiencing discomfort or pain while speaking, or not liking how your voice sounds. As you age, your voice becomes weaker. It's a natural process. The more you use your voice, the better it is for you.

Dr. Chandran teaches several things to strengthen your voice and make it more clear.
