Located alongside the Ohio River, Louisville, Ky., is the picturesque home to more than 1 million residents. The birthplace of boxing legend Muhammad Ali and TV journalist Diane Sawyer, Louisville is host to exciting sporting events, tasty restaurants and a number of internationally known businesses.
Louisville travel is made easy with the city's convenient location and an airport that is easy to navigate. Visitors from New York and Miami can reach the Louisville International Airport in approximately two hours by plane, and visitors will find car rental and taxicabs easy to access. Restaurants are plentiful in the city known for some of the finest local eateries in the country. Every type of food and atmosphere that you would want is here -- from funky, uptown, sushi bars to local Irish pubs, and everything in between.
The Louisville tourism industry typically reaches its annual peak during the first week of May, when thousands of people travel to the city from across the globe to attend the world famous Kentucky Derby horse race. The Kentucky Derby is known by many as the most exciting two minutes in sports. Sports fans will also enjoy the city's new basketball arena, as well as the excitement that the city's college basketball program generates among Louisvillians and visitors.
Due to the city's relatively central location in the United States, residents are able to enjoy cool temperatures and some snowfall during the fall and winter, as well as the warmer temperatures and sunshine in the spring and summer seasons. Louisville is a picturesque city characterized by a grassy, gently rolling terrain, and many mature trees in the suburban areas of the city.
For anyone interested in living in Louisville, there is a wide variety of private and public housing options available. The city has a number of large older homes and historic buildings, many of which are located within a four-mile radius of the city's center. For people seeking a newer home or a larger yard, the city has a number of newer homes with enhanced amenities available in the suburban areas outside the downtown area.
