University of Louisville Physicians is made up of more than 600 highly trained and dedicated doctors who work together to care for patients from prenatal days to the senior years. We are a team whose leading-edge knowledge helps patients throughout Kentucky and southern Indiana and in hospitals all across the region.  As our organization continues to grow, we are adding a Coding / Billing Analyst to our clinical operations.

SUMMARY

At the direction of the Clinic Manager, the Coding/Billing Analyst oversees and coordinates the coding and billing processes for an assigned group.  This position will monitor and analyze daily coding volumes, productivity and turnaround times for accuracy and compliance.  Provides coding and administrative support to coding team and other business partners.  Using knowledge of all governmental billing and coding rules and regulations, the Analyst will train, education, coach and inform coding staff, physicians and business partners.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Research, analyze, abstract and code diagnoses and/or interventional procedures from patient reports, medical charts, fee tickets or other clinic records.

·       Analyzing coding/billing reports data.

·       Compile and maintain logs and reports.

·       Maintain charge interfaces.

·       Works with physicians and team members to lead initial and concurrent coding.

·       Assures turnaround time goals are met providing a seamless workflow at the clinic level.

·       Monitors and coordinates final coding turnaround times to assure timely claims processing.

·       Coordinates coder work assignments to assure coding coverage.

·       Assists with coding backlogs and PTO coverage on an as needed basis.

·       Provides second reviews and responses to queries from the coders on complex records.

·       Run daily, monthly, and periodic reports on account volumes, productivity, turnaround times, and quality measures for operations leadership.

·       Monitors incoming files volume and assist with file organization and maintenance on an as needed basis.

·       Assists with audits and record delivery tracking on a regular basis.

·       Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

·       High school graduate, college degree preferred.

·       Current AACP CPC or other comparable certification required.

·       Understands and applies advanced medical terminology, anatomy and physiology knowledge.

·       3 years experience as medical coder preferred.

·       1 year supervisor / leadership experience preferred.

·       Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.  Effective interpersonal skills to maintain a good working relationship with physicians, organization contacts and coding staff to achieve optimal service delivery.

·       Proficient use of computer and medical billing systems.  Technical knowledge of coding operating systems.

·       Comprehensive knowledge of Medicare guidelines and regulations.

·       Proficient use/knowledge of Centricity preferred.

·       Ability to organize and prioritize work in order to meet job demands.

·       Ability to analyze data and present information to management in an organized manner on a routine basis.

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information to assure patient and/or employee rights are protected.

·       Fluency in written, verbal and comprehension of the English language.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

·       This position requires constant and regular use of hands to finger, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

·       Must be able to sit for long periods of time. 

·       Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus.

·       Regular bending, stooping, lifting up to 25 lbs.
